This is a very short book (only 200 pages that go by very quickly because the paragraphs are intentionally short). It’s one of those books that causes you to see the world differently and you’re not sure if you see it for what it really is or for what you’re afraid it really is. It’s exceptionally written, but I hope I finish soon because it’s … too real. Around 100 pages in, I put it down and decided I wouldn’t finish it because it’s very fragmented and kind of schizophrenic and made me feel like I didn’t read enough poetry to fully understand it. But something pulled me back in and now I’m having a hard time putting it down. Books should be mind altering. ⁣
This weekend’s library haul! Super excited for both of these - While Justice Sleeps because Stacey Abrams is a national hero and The Turnout because of my past life as a dancer. 🩰 I think I might be the first person to checkout the Turnout from the library (it’s pub date isn’t until Aug 3) and that feels exciting! ⁣
Happy Saturday ☕️ 📚 Really enjoying A Crooked Tree by @unamannion It’s a haunting yet reflective coming-of-age story that I think is somewhat misrepresented as thriller/mystery. It has elements of that but it’s so much more. Perfect weekend read. ⁣
Started both of these yesterday! The knitting project is a gift so I won’t say much. 🤫 And A Crooked Tree by @unamannion is definitely well written but the dust jacket synopsis led me to believe this was a book about a little girl who’s gone missing, and that’s apparently not so. I’m almost 100 pages in and have no idea what this book is going to actually be about and I have to admit- I’m digging it! There’s definitely an element of “whodunnit” but there’s also the fact that it’s set in the Philadelphia area and having grown up in a Philly suburb myself (in NJ) and then living in Philly for 5 years, I’m loving all the local stomping ground references. So far - I highly recommend! ⁣
4 stars for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder! I read this book lightning fast and it’s everything I want from a YA mystery. 17 year-old Pippa Fitz-Amobi is a modern day Harriet the Spy, determined to prove that Sal Singh did not kill Andie Bell. With more than a few nods to the podcast Serial, this teenage drama unfolds with twists and turns, none of which are too implausible and everything is a clue - or is it?? I have to get back to my TBR pile, but I will definitely be reading the sequel.
“I’ll get on the Peloton… just one more chapter.” I’m a morning person. It usually doesn’t matter how late I’ve gone to bed- my body naturally wakes up around 5am. Morning is my favorite time of day for the simple fact that it’s the only time when I feel no obligation to do anything except… ✨whatever I feel like✨ Everyone else is asleep - nothing is due, no one needs anything from me. I can completely relax. I try to get in 2 hours of “whatever I feel like” time each day. Some days that includes a workout. Some days it means just wearing workout clothes while I read 😆 ⁣
