🪩 Obsessed with this retro palette. Stacked stitches by @xandypeters are all I’m interested in knitting RN. 🪩
Learned a lot of new techniques this weekend at an incredible retreat with @lancasteryarnshop 🧶 Shown here is the start of my #fascinationscarf by @xandypeters. I’m going with their “it’s right if you like it” concept 🤷‍♀️
Knitting is probably the closest thing to praying that I do. Whenever I knit something “for” someone else (rarely), I hold that person in my heart with every stitch. It’s not even a conscious thing - It’s just natural to think about the person while you’re making something for them. Even if it’s a baby that isn’t born yet, I’m subconsciously thinking about what they will be like and how excited I am to meet them. I work with about 60+ people who are Ukrainian, most of whom have evacuated their homes for safer regions. As I’ve been working on this piece, I think about what it must be like for them and their families to somehow go about your day to day lives, find small bits of joy, continue to work, do chores, go to school, while everything is crumbling and the danger is so near. I think about @theknottyboss and what it must be like to see your home country endure such inhumane atrocities. Knitting a sweater isn’t going to solve anything, but I do think that avoiding the urge to look the other way or pretend it isn’t happening, to spend some time each day holding the people of Ukraine in my heart, helps to ensure that no one is forgotten, that apathy doesn’t lead way to ignorance. I don’t really have a positive way to end this post. War is not really something you can put a positive slant on. All I can say is there are dozens of things I had planned to knit this year, but sometimes you have to knit certain things for unexpected reasons, and sometimes throwing yourself into your craft is the only way to express how you feel. 🇺🇦
I need to get to @perfectblendyarnshop for some FO shots! I started this sweater almost four years ago as part of a class at PBYS and it’s finally complete! I’m probably the only one who was happy to see the temps go back down so I could wear it at least once this season. Yarn is @cascadeyarns in Cascade 220 (from Perfect Blend) and the pattern is the #strangebrewsweater by @tincanknits - I designed the colorwork chart myself and I’m so pleased with how it came out! I did end up making it shorter and it’s still a bit roomy, but overall really happy about this one.
My next #strangebrewsweater is coming along! 🇺🇦
I need to shorten this one. I wanted it oversized but I over shot it a bit. Shouldn’t be too hard to do… right?? 😬 wish me luck! Now if only I could take it in a bit too 🤔
